Boosting you metabolism is one of the main goals people who look after their weight have, but how your body is using calories is dependent on many factors. Some people genetically have quicker metabolism. Men in general are burning calories faster than women even without any activity. For most people, metabolism is slowing down after age of 40. Even though you cannot change your age, sex or genetics, there are a few ways how to boost your metabolism.
These are the 9 ways.
BUILD MUSCLE
Your body is constantly burning calories, even when you are doing nothing. Person with more muscles burns more calories. Every kilogram of muscle burns approximately 12 calories per day to sustain itself and every kilogram of fat burns around 4 calories. That difference might seem small at first but over time it adds up.
UP THE TRAINING INTENSITY
Aerobic training might not build muscle, but it can speed up your metabolism in the hours after you’ve done your training. The key is to push yourself just a little bit more every time. High intensity training boost your metabolism much better than low intensity training. My advice: always combine the two.
DRINK MORE WATER
Your body needs water to process calories. Even when you are dehydrated just a little bit, your body slows down your metabolism. Also, eat fresh fruits and vegetables because they naturally contain water and not chips or chocolate bars.
ENERGY DRINKS?
Some ingredients in energy drinks can boost your metabolism. They are full of caffeine which increases energy levels that your body uses. Some drinks use taurine which is amino acid. Taurine can boost metabolism and also help with fat burning. But these drinks also can cause problems for people with high blood pressure, anxiety and insomnia.
SPICE UP FOR MEALS
Spicy food contains natural chemicals that can speed up your metabolism in the high gear. You can always add chili or spicy peppers to your meals as add-ons.
INCREASE PROTEIN INTAKE
Your body burns more calories digesting protein than fats or carbohydrates. Eating protein with every meal is a must and you’ll notice the change.
DRINK BLACK COFFEE
In moderation, caffeine can help you too feel less tired and can even increase your endurance or training.
DRINK GREEN TEA
Green tea offers a combination of caffeine and other substances that boost your metabolism for a few hours.
SKIP MODERN OR CRASH DIETS
Modern diets that advocate eating less than 1000 calories (for women) and less than 2000 calories (for men) are really bad for anyone who wants to boost their metabolism. Even though in the beginning they can boost metabolism, all of that will turn upside down and you’ll lose muscle mass and eventually you’ll increase your weight even more than it was at the beginning of that diet.
